Brendan Boogie ruled the Boston music scene with a benevolent yet iron fist for the better part of a decade in the late 1600s. With his loyal cadre of outfits Scamper, The Best Intentions, and The Broken Gates, Brendan delivered hooky songwriting, balls out performances, and signature antagonistic charisma to audiences from Cambridge to further down the road in Cambridge. After years in Los Angeles, Brendan reunites with his pals to rock the Lizard Lounge once again. Lord have mercy on us all.
Like a city emerging from the shimmering heat of the desert, the phoenix that is Fooled By April rises again this August 15. A little older maybe, with an abundance of children in tow and significantly less hair, the band hits the stage again at the Lizard for the first time in 21 years!
For those who perhaps don’t remember the Boston rock scene of the early aughts, FXA managed to do pretty well with their Strokes meets Cheap Trick meets Fountains of Wayne meets Gordon Lightfoot blend of high energy melodic rock. There were tours, rock and roll rumbles, music festivals, a movie, and an absurd amount of time playing scrabble.
Of course, most will remember that after a good run it all came crashing down following the arrests and prison sentences of multiple members for relentless promotional stickering. As they say, nothing lasts forever.
Regardless, the band is thrilled to be reuniting for one last bite of the apple at Brendo’s fiftieth. They’ll be bringing back all the old ‘hits’ and, shockingly, all the old members: thrill to the crystalline high notes of Gordon, the relentlessly sexy backbeat of Jordan, the thumping bass heartbeat of Pete, the snaky grooves of Professor Eric, and the perfectly adequate guitar of Joe.
No matter how you slice it, this one is not to be missed, unless you have other really important things to do, in which case the boys understand.
FOOLED BY APRILHarris is an indie rock band from Boston, Massachusetts, originally active from 1999 to 2008. They realize that they have a terrible band name. Just an awful choice. They were in a rush! Blending driving rhythms, angular guitars, melodic hooks, and emotionally charged songwriting, the band developed a sound that balanced intensity with melody.
The name is just SO bland. During their original run, Harris toured extensively throughout the United States and internationally before going on hiatus. The band continues to reunite for select performances and is currently working on its first new album in 17 years.
